Welcome Care Plus Part of Bupa, the new IGP Network Partner for group health coverage in Brazil

Current landscape of group health insurance in Brazil

Brazil provides universal healthcare through its public system, the Unified Health System (SUS). While urban areas generally offer adequate care, rural regions often face limitations. Nationwide, long wait times for non-emergency treatments and routine exams remain a significant challenge.

Consequently, employers in Brazil commonly offer private health and dental insurance as essential employee benefits. These supplemental plans are governed by the National Regulatory Agency for Private Health Insurance and Plans (ANS), which enforces a standard minimum level of coverage across all insurers. Although this ensures a baseline level of care, providers differentiate themselves through the quality and scope of their medical networks, including hospitals, clinics, and specialists, as well as the level of service and innovation they deliver to enhance the employee experience.

Private health insurance coverage has grown to cover approximately 25.8% of the Brazilian population in 2024. This increase is driven by demographic shifts, healthcare reforms, and growing demand for higher-quality care—particularly among the urban middle class. 1

With global medical costs rising in double digits for three consecutive years, the 2025 Aon, MMB, and WTW medical trend rate reports project a gross medical trend rate increase in Brazil of between 12.2% and 12.9%, aligning with the global trend. As a result, also in Brazil, insurers are focusing on cost containment strategies, including preventive care programs and health management programs. 23, 4

Partnering for health: How Care Plus is redefining employee well-being in Brazil

As global organizations continue to prioritize employee health and well-being, Care Plus stands out as a strategic partner for companies seeking high-quality, personalized care solutions in Brazil. Care Plus continues to advance its role as a trusted health partner by investing in innovation, sustainable practices, and personalized care—enhancing access, improving service delivery, and supporting the well-being of employees and their families.

Driving digital health transformation

A key milestone in 2024 was the launch of Blua, Care Plus’s exclusive digital health platform. Integrated into the company’s mobile app, Blua offers a suite of services including teleconsultations, wellness assessments, home exam scheduling, and access to personalized care programs. The platform quickly gained traction, with 29% of beneficiaries actively using it and satisfaction scores (NPS) reaching 92% among chronic patients.5

This digital leap was part of a broader investment in technology and data privacy, with Care Plus establishing a dedicated AI Governance & Ethics unit to ensure responsible use of artificial intelligence in healthcare. The company also adopted agile development practices to streamline operations and improve user experience across its digital channels.

Expanding access through strategic growth

To meet the growing demand for integrated care, Care Plus expanded its service portfolio through key acquisitions. In 2023, it acquired INPAO, a dental plan provider with nearly 60 years of experience, and Vacinar, a clinic specializing in human immunization. These strategic acquisitions significantly increased Care Plus’s scale and strengthened its pioneering position in health and well-being, enabling the company to triple in size and enhance its service capacity while remaining focused on its mission to help people live longer, healthier, and happier lives.

Commitment to ESG and community impact

Care Plus aligns with Bupa’s global goal of achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. Locally, the company has already reduced 150,000 kg of CO₂ emissions and conserved over 186,000 liters of water since 2020. Its LEED-certified headquarters in Barueri is one of the most sustainable office spaces in Brazil.

The company also led the Healthy Cities Challenge, a global wellness initiative that saw a 366% increase in participation in 2024. More than 1,600 employees, clients, and guests joined the challenge, collectively walking over 247 million steps.5

Care Plus continues to support a wide range of social initiatives, including breast cancer treatment for low-income women, cultural education programs in underserved communities, and emergency relief efforts in response to natural disasters.

Customer-centric care programs

Care Plus offers a growing portfolio of preventive and personalized care programs designed to support employees and their families at every stage of life:

  • Personal System: Chronic disease management
  • Mental Health: 24/7 psychological support
  • Mommy Care: Pregnancy and maternity support
  • Family Care: Guidance for families with special needs
  • Teleconsultations, wellness check-ups, and nutrition services

These programs are designed to improve health outcomes, reduce absenteeism, and enhance the overall employee experience.

Strengthening governance and compliance

In 2024, Care Plus strengthened its governance framework with a focus on fraud prevention and compliance. The company launched the “Faça Pelo Mundo” campaign to raise awareness about fraud in the healthcare sector and continued its educational efforts through the “Trago Verdades” portal, which has received over 11,000 reports since its launch.

With a Net Promoter Score (NPS) of 72, Care Plus remains committed to delivering high-quality, humanized care while maintaining financial sustainability and ethical integrity.5
