Mapfre Paraguay Compañía de Seguros S.A. was originally founded in 1977 and operated under the name, Compañía General de Seguros. In 1994, it was re-established as Mapfre Paraguay Compañía de Seguros S.A. with 17 offices located throughout the country. Mapfre Paraguay offers a range of products including group life and disability riders as well as accident coverage and all lines of property and casualty insurance. In 2007, Mapfre Paraguay acquired Real Paraguaya de Seguros S.A. and now holds a 25% market share.

Mapfre Paraguay is part of the Mapfre Group, the largest foreign insurance group in Latin America and the largest insurance company in its home country, Spain. Founded in 1933, the Mapfre Group offers insurance, reinsurance and financial services, and its international presence consists of offices in 45 countries. The Mapfre Group has been rated as A+ (Strong) by Standard & Poor's and has approximately 13 million clients worldwide.
