Canada Life Limited
Canada Life Limited is a wholly owned subsidiary of Canada Life Assurance Company, which began doing business in the United Kingdom in 1903. Canada Life Assurance has assets of approximately GBP 28 billion (USD 43 billion), and worldwide, it services approximately 10 million people through individual and group contracts.
Canada Life became the largest provider of group life insurance and the second largest underwriter for group income protection (disability) insurance after it acquired the group risk business of Royal & SunAlliance in October 2002. As the former Royal & SunAlliance employees have combined their expertise with that of Canada Life, the company benefits from over two hundred years of experience in the UK group insurance market. Based in Bristol, Canada Life’s Group Insurance Division now covers approximately 2.7 million employees under group arrangements.
In 2003, Canada Life Assurance was acquired by the Great-West Life Assurance Company. The Great-West Life Assurance Company was founded in Winnipeg in 1891 and is a major Canadian life and health insurer, as well as a market leader in group insurance and individual segregated funds. This merger combined the resources of three of Canada’s leading life insurance companies – Great-West, London Life, and Canada Life – creating a strong financial services organization with a global reach.
